INTERNATIONAL CALL FOR SUPPORT OF TOVARNA ROG

PEDIDO INTERNACIONAL DE APOYO A ROG

Tovarna Rog, industrijski kompleks v središču mesta, ki je po zaustavitvi proizvodnje koles leta 1994 več let zapostavljen sameval in propadal, so leta 2006 zasedli umetniki, angažirani študentje in aktivisti. Zasmetene in zapuščene prostore so očistili, zavarovali in v njih uredili umetniške ateljeje, delavnice, galerijske prostore, skate-park, koncertno dvorano, cirkusarno in socialni center.Kljub poskusom zatretja avtonomne tovarne Rog  s strani mestnih oblastni (nepripravljenost na podpis pogodbe o začasni rabi in onemogočanje priklopa na javno elektro omrežje) so uporabniki tovarne Rog s svojo samo-iniciativnostjo, iznajdljivostjo in sodelovanjem v desetih letih delovanja ustvarili eno izmed glavnih prizorišč urbane kulture, kritične misli in angažiranega delovanja na nivoju mesta, države in širše.

V avtonomni tovarni Rog si je svoj atelje uredilo na desetine študentov, umetnikov in ostalih ustvarjalcev, ki delujejo na najrazličnejših področij; od likovne, do multimedijskih in uličnih umetniških praks. Poleg tega v Rogu potekajo treningi športno-rekreativnih in akrobatskih veščin, glasbeni koncerti in jamsession-i, literarni večeri, bralne uprizoritve dramskih tekstov in performansi, tečaji angleščine za prosilce za azil in ostalo integracijsko delo z begunci. Vendar Mestna občina Ljubljana in njen župan Zoran Jankovič načrtujejo ’’prenovo’’ Tovarne, ki vključuje rušitev vseh prizodkov Tovarne, v katerih trenutno poteka glavnina dejavnosti. To pomeni izselitev trenutnih uporabnikov, pronovljena stavba pa naj bi postala nov center za vizualne umetnosti in kreativne industrije. Občinski projekt, ki naj bi bil financiran preko evropskih sredstev, ne predvideva razvoja na podlagi oziroma v dialogu z desetletnimi izkušnjami stotin udeležencev avtonomnih aktivnosti Roga. Nasprotno, zaključil naj bi gentrifikacijski proces revitalizacije zgodovinskega mestnega jedra in potenciral idejo kulturnih industrij namesto avtonomnega in eksperimentalnega ustvarjanja umetniških in družabnih dogodkov.

The former bicycle factory Tovarna Rog, located in the very centre of Ljubljana, Slovenia, was occupied in 2006 by a group of young intellectuals, artists, social activists and other creative forces. Since then, it has become an unique and idiosyncratic place of encounter and work for a huge number of individuals, groups, organizations and initiatives, including festivals, galleries, meeting places and clubs, exhibitions and a Social Center that offers help to migrant workers and provides education and support for refugees and other marginalized groups. In spite of the absence of public electricity, Rog has celebrated its ten years of steady production, renovation and construction all along the planted courtyard and its meeting and forum points, the concert hall, the skate park, cirkusarna, a playground on the first floor used for training kung fu and playing football, break-dance floors and various Slovenian and international artist’s studios, demonstrated once more that the old industrial complex is a lively place for creation and experimentation that breathes with its neighborhood, the city and its inhabitants.

At the same time, Rog is becoming an attraction for foreign visitors and its history is a part of Slovenia’s art history and cultural landscape. However, the municipality and its mayor ‪#‎ZoranJanković‬ are planning to start a "renovation" project which includes the demolition of several buildings hosting some of  these activities, the subsequent eviction and dispersion of current users of Rog and the establishment of a new center for visual arts and creative industries. This project, intended to be financed  through European funds, is not foreseen to be developed from or in dialogue with the 10-years experience of hundreds of participants in autonomous Rog activities. On the contrary, it is supposed to conclude the gentrification-led process of revitalization of city historical center and privilege the notion of cultural industry instead of autonomous and experimental creation of artistic and social events.

La vieja fábrica de bicicletas Tovarna Rog, situada en pleno centro de Liubliana, fue ocupada en 2006 por un grupo de jóvenes intelectuales, artistas, activistas y otras fuerzas creadoras. Tovarna Rog se ha convertido desde entonces en un único e idiosincrático lugar de encuentro y trabajo para un inmenso número de individuos, grupos, organizaciones e iniciativas, incluyendo festivales, galerías de arte, cafés y tertulias, muestras y un Centro Social que ofrece ayuda a migrantes y provee programas educativos y recreacionales a refugiados y otros grupos marginalizados. A pesar de la falta de electricidad pública,, Rog celebró este año su décimo aniversario de ininterrumpida producción, renovación y construcción alrededor de su patio de esculturas y cultivos con sus lugares de encuentro y discusión, su sala de conciertos, su grupo de circo, su gran pista de skate, la cancha de fútbol y otros deportes del primer piso, las pistas de breakdance y diversos estudios y talleres de artistas, demostrando una vez más que el complejo industrial es un activo espacio de creación y experimentación que respira con el vecindario, la ciudad y sus habitantes. Al mismo tiempo, Rog se ha convertido en una atracción para visitantes extranjeros en Liubliana, y su historia ya es parte de la historia del arte esloveno y del panorama cultural del país.

Así y todo, la municipalidad y su alcalde, ‪#‎ZoranJanković, están planeando iniciar un proyecto de renovación que incluye la demolición de varios de los edificios que albergan estas actividades, la subsiguiente disolución de la comunidad Rog y la dispersión de sus usuarios, y el establecimiento de un nuevo centro para las artes visuales y otras industrias creativas. Este proyecto, que pretende ser financiado con fondos europeos, no prevé ser desarrollado junto a o en diálogo con la experiencia de 10 años de los cientos de participantes en las actividades de Rog. Por el contrario, su construcción continuaráel proceso de gentrificación actual de Liubliana y privilegiará la noción de industria cultural sobre la creación experimental y autónoma de eventos artísticos y sociales.
